its time to lock in
Welcome to the world of LOCKED !N.
One of the most fun subgenres of the 80's is Heavy Metal Horror: horror centered around metal musicians, inspired to the conservative backlash to that music.
Today's hip-hop music is very influenced by 80's aesthetics. Modern hip-hop artists like Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Ken Carson, and Homixide Gang have build their aesthetic around 80's punk and metal. This is the perfect opportunity to ride the wave of 80's throwbacks, while also doing something modern. This film revitalizes heavy metal horror for a new generation.
In the words of Andre 3000 "The South got something to say." As a South Carolina based production, we want to highlight the best of up and coming southern filmmakers.
LOCKED !N is written and directed by Robert Therrell.
His fascination with horror comes from his religious background, where as a kid he consumed a lot of media leftover from the satanic panic-- media where the audience believed the horror was real. As a director who started in Christian film, then did music videos, then narrative film, who also makes beats-- this film combines everything he's done in his career.
Gunner Willis is no stranger to producing horror with humor. Recently he and Robert have taken turns directing and producing each other's films, their last film together SKATEAWAY2K is set to premiere on Omeleto soon. Zach Echols has producing the films like Love Struck and Murder On Cape Melecholy for Trash Mouth Productions. And Shama Mrema is a writer, producer, and stand-up comedian who has gathered an audience of over 400 thousand followers through his comedy sketches and music videos, many of which were created with the rest of the team.
The film will star William Oliver, Chase Bridges, Drez Ryan, Yasmin Lee, and Deak Smalls. This film seeks to spotlight the amazing emerging talent from the southeast, we have a great cast of actors from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Finally we have a Greenville, SC based production crew led by our Director Of Photography Jeffery Griffith, who makes everything he touches turn to 4k gold.
Our total budget is $13,000. Here is a breakdown of what all that will go toward:
The main thing this money is going toward is paying our cast and crew. We have made many short films asking for favors and volunteers, this time around we want everyone to be paid for their labor. Inspired by productions like Sing Sing, we will be paying everyone involved in the project the same day rate. We want our cast and crew to be paid for their time and for their experience on set to be the best it can be.
The heavy metal horror of the 80's was a direct response to The Satanic Panic, where people thought these metal groups were demonic and brainwashing kids with secret messages to lead them into the occult.
Now in present day there is a new satanic panic, only instead of briefly living in mainstream media, it is now able to fester for much longer in dark corners of the internet, where certain people will never see it, but these messages are especially targeted to the people most likely to believe them.
Our main character grew up in an environment where he was taught that the outside world is dangerous. That these musicians are demonic. So we're going to watch this kid step into the world he was taught to fear.
